Fighters from Mexico, South America and Central America will go through a series of training drills this week in an effort to earn a UFC contract
The UFC is beginning its second Academy Combine at the UFC Performance Institute in Mexico City today, Monday, Jan. 27, according to multiple sources who have sent fighters there to try out for a place on the UFC roster.
Fighters from Mexico as well as various countries in South America and Central America will be evaluated during a series of training drills in striking, wrestling, grappling and conditioning.
The combine will take place over the course of this week, and fighters will learn the results and their respective fates on Saturday Feb. 1.
Among those fighters who were invited to, and will participate in the combine, are bantamweight (135 pounds/61 kilograms) Ismael “Kraken” Zamora (8-3) of Mexico City and Yazmin “La Niña Árbol” Najera (4-1), also of Mexico City.
Both Zamora and and Najera are members of Mexico City’s Bonebreakers team that is also home to UFC fighters and siblings, Melissa and David Martinez.
The inaugural UFC Academy Combine at the UFC Performance Institute in Mexico City took place last April, on the heels of the grand opening of the 30,000 square foot facility that is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to support fighters’ training needs.
Over 40 male and female fighters from Mexico, South America and Central America participated in the first UFC Academy Combine in Mexico City.
