Muay Thai Prodigy Fights for His Life After Tragic Accident
SAN DIEGO – The combat sports community has rallied around Kevin Ouda, an 11-year-old Muay Thai champion. Known as a rising star in the ring, the Muay Thai Prodigy Fights for His Life After Tragic Accident last Saturday near El Cajon, when a car struck him while he was returning to his gym after a morning run with older teammates.
A Hero in the Ring, a Warrior Beyond It
According to James Gregory, Kevin’s coach, the accident occurred when Kevin tried to avoid a dog that dashed into his path. The vehicle hit Kevin on First Avenue, a street that lacks sidewalks and proper lighting.
“Kevin fights with incredible heart and determination. He refuses to give up,” Gregory stated. Kevin was transported to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego with head trauma for emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.
Despite the surgical team’s best efforts, as of the morning of Sunday December 22, Kevin is on life support, with a ventilator to maintain his breathing and heartbeat.
From Championship Glory to a New Battle
In September, Kevin achieved an extraordinary milestone by winning a regional championship in Arizona. His rapid progress amazed the Muay Thai community. Scheduled to compete in a national title fight this January in Queens, New York, Kevin now focuses on his toughest challenge yet—recovering from his injuries.
A Community Rallies Around Kevin
Gregory’s gym, Pure Heart Muay Thai, has become a hub for prayers and encouragement. Support has poured in from across the nation, including from Kevin’s future opponent and their family.
“We’re standing in his corner for this fight, just as we would in the ring,” Gregory emphasized.
How You Can Make a Difference
The team asks for prayers and support as Kevin’s recovery continues. Community members have sent messages of encouragement, which give hope to Kevin’s family and gym.
